양떼를 키우는 평범한 목장주인 댄은 어느날 아들 크리스와 함께 목장에서 야영하던 중 크리스가 갑자기 피를 흘리며 의식을 잃자 급히 병원으로 데려간다. 병원에서는 댄과 크리스를 각각 격리시키고 이상한 검사만 계속한다. 아들을 만날 수도 없고 무슨 병인지 물어봐도 가르쳐 주지 않는 병원측 태도에 의심을 품은 댄은 몰래 병실을 빠져나와 아들이 이미 죽었음을 확인한다.

Rage is a 1972 American environmental thriller film directed by George C. Scott in his feature directorial debut, and starring Scott, Richard Basehart, Martin Sheen, and Barnard Hughes. The plot, which is inspired by the 1968 Dugway sheep incident, follows a rancher and his family who are fatally exposed to a military lab's poison gas.

Production

Fred Weintraub told the San Francisco Chronicle that Philip Friedman and Dan Kleinman approached him with a script based on the Dugway incident. They had fictionalized it to include poisoned humans, which was never a verified outcome of the accident. In their treatment, the gas has damaged the rancher's brain, causing the disproportionate reaction to the Army's secrecy about his son's death.

The film was shot entirely in Arizona, much of it on a Nogales ranch once owned by actor Stewart Granger.
