키작은 건설업자 잭(Jack Hartounian: 잭키 매이슨 분)은 상류계층만이 드나들수 있는 부쉬우드 칸츄리 클럽(Bushwood Country Club) 근처에 저임 근로자들을 위한 아파트를 지으려한다. 저임금 근로자들이 이웃에 사는 것을 반대하는 부쉬우드 칸츄리 클럽 회원들은 그의 계획을 방해하려 한다. 한편 상류 계급에 대해서 동경심을 갖고 있는 잭의 딸 케이트(Kate Hartounian: 제시카 런디 분)는 잭에게 부쉬우드 칸츄리 클럽에 가입할 것을 부탁한다. 잭은 딸을 위해 나사에 있는 친구가 주었다는 요상한 기계로 골프를 치는 등 칸츄리 클럽에 가입할려고 노력하지만, 남을 의식하지 않는 성격에다 허영심이 가득찬 이들의 생활을 멸시하여 회원 가입에 거절당한다. 그 후 칸츄리 클럽 회원들은 자신들의 사회적 지위와 모든 권력을 이용해서 잭의 아파트 건설을 방해하자 화가 난 잭은 친구인 타이(Ty Webb: 체이 체이스 분)가 갖고 있는 부쉬우드 칸츄리 클럽의 주식을 사들여서 클럽의 소유주가 된다. 소유주가 된 잭은 상류계층의 칸츄리 클럽 골프장을 유원지처럼 꾸며서 일반 사람들에게 공개한다. 클럽을 빼앗긴 칸츄리 클럽 회원들은 힘을 합쳐서 아파트 공사 허가권을 취소시켜 버린다. 결국 잭과 칸츄리 클럽의 회장인 챈들러(Chandler Young: 로버트 스택 분)는 골프 경기를 통해서 문제 해결을 시도한다. 잭이 이길 경우는 아파트 공사를 계속하고 챈들러가 이길 경우는 칸츄리 클럽을 되돌려 받는다는 조건으로 골프 경기를 한다. 챈들러는 잭을 없애기 위해 정신나간 특공대 요원인 캡트 톰 애버렛(Capt. Tom Everett: 댄 애크로이드 분)을 고용하게 되지만 캡트는 이곳에 사는 두더지 때문에 엉덩이에 화살만 박히게 된다. 결국 잭은 이 경기에서 간신히 이기고 공사를 할 수 있게 된다.

Caddyshack II is a 1988 American sports comedy film and a sequel to the 1980 film Caddyshack. Directed by Allan Arkush and written by Harold Ramis and PJ Torokvei, it stars Jackie Mason, Robert Stack, Dyan Cannon, Dina Merrill, Jonathan Silverman, Brian McNamara, Marsha Warfield, Paul Bartel and Randy Quaid with special appearances by Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd. It tells the story of wealthy and widowed real estate developer Jack Hartounian who goes up against Bushwood Country Club's snobbish president Chandler Young in a golfing tournament.

Production

The original Caddyshack was a box-office success, making $60 million worldwide on a budget of $4.8 million. Warner Bros. therefore set about to make a sequel. As originally planned, Caddyshack II would have reunited Rodney Dangerfield (one of the stars of the original Caddyshack) with the director Alan Metter, who had worked with Dangerfield in the comedy film Back to School (1986).

Jon Peters, executive producer of Caddyshack, would produce the sequel with Peter Guber and Neil Canton. The studio invited Caddyshack director Harold Ramis, who co-wrote that film with Brian Doyle-Murray and Douglas Kenney, to write the sequel. (Neither Doyle-Murray nor Kenney were involved in the sequel; Caddyshack producer/co-writer Kenney died in August 1980, a month after that film's release.)

Ramis later described Caddyshack II, which he co-wrote with his Second City Television colleague PJ Torokvei, as "terrible." In an interview with The A.V. Club in 1999, Ramis said that:

...with Caddyshack II, the studio begged me. They said, "Hey, we've got a great idea: 'The Shack is Back!'" And I said "No, I don't think so." But they said that Rodney really wanted to do it, and we could build it around Rodney. Rodney said, "Come on, do it." Then the classic argument came up which says that if you don't do it, someone will, and it will be really bad.

Ramis was later quoted as saying that Dangerfield was the only one who expressed an interest in doing a sequel in the first place. Ted Knight had died two years earlier, Bill Murray was not interested in reprising his role as Carl Spackler the greenskeeper, and he said Chase had "already moved on", although Chase did eventually agree to appear.
