어릴 적 "2001 스페이스 오디세이"를 보고 SF 장르에 흠뻑 빠진 팻. 없는 돈을 끌어 모아 남동생과 여동생까지 총 동원하며 세기의 위대한 대작을 만들 꿈에 부풀어 있지만 그의 노력을 알아봐주는 사람은 그리 많지 않다. 아빠와 이혼한 엄마는 홀로 삼남매를 키워야 하는 삶의 무게에 짓눌려 있고, 친구들은 B급 장르영화만 읊어대는 팻을 전혀 이해하지 못한다. 그러던 어느 날, "스타워즈"가 개봉한다는 소식을 듣게 된 팻. 세기의 역작이 탄생했다 생각하곤 개봉일에 영화를 보러 가지만 그가 사는 워즈워스에서는 "스타워즈"가 어떤 영화인지 아는 사람조차 드물다.

It stars John Francis Daley as a teenage director living in Wadsworth, Illinois, and his excitement for the premiere of Star Wars on May 25, 1977.
Production
Johnson began funding the project in 2001 and filming took place from 2004 to 2006. Additional shots and special effects were filmed in 2015, 2016, and over the following six years, making the film's production span a total of 18 years.
The film was first known as 5-25-77; the title was then changed to '77. In 2012, the title was reverted to 5-25-77.
It is also the final film appearance of actor Justin Mentell, released seven years after his death on February 1, 2010.
