전철기관사인 리오넬은 딸 조와 단둘이 변두리 동네에서 단조로운 일상을 보낸다. 가끔 친구들과 럼 샷을 하고 주변에는 사랑하는 친구들과 자신에게 특별히 관심을 보이는 여자도 있다. 같은 아파트에서 혼자 고양이를 키우며 사는 레오는 조를 좋아하고, 리오넬은 홀애비인 자기 때문에 그녀가 청춘을 마음껏 즐기지 못하는 것에 안타까워한다.

35 Shots of Rum is a 2008 drama film directed by Claire Denis. It stars Alex Descas, Mati Diop, Nicole Dogue, and Grégoire Colin. It tells the story of a father-daughter relationship complicated by the arrival of an attractive young man. The film had its world premiere out of competition at the 65th Venice International Film Festival on 29 August 2008. It was released in France on 18 February 2009, and in Germany on 5 March 2009.

Production

For the film, director Claire Denis got inspiration from Yasujirō Ozu's film Late Spring, as well as a relationship between her own mother and grandfather. She wrote the screenplay with Jean-Pol Fargeau. The film was shot by Agnès Godard. Tindersticks wrote the score for the film. The Commodores song Nightshift was featured in the film.
