1985년 뉴욕, 소설가 휘틀리 스트리버는 아내 앤, 어린 아들 앤드루와 함께 평온한 나날을 보내고 있다. 친구들과 함께 찾은 외딴 숲속 별장에서의 어느 밤, 경보 장치가 울리고 눈부신 빛이 집 전체를 뒤덮는다. 휘틀리는 어둠 속에서 자신을 지켜보는 낯선 존재를 목격하지만, 아침이 되자 남은 것은 뒤엉킨 기억과 설명할 수 없는 불안뿐이다. 그날 이후 악몽과 환영이 그의 일상을 잠식하고, 글은 써지지 않으며, 가족과의 관계마저 흔들리기 시작한다. 자신이 미쳐가고 있는 것인지, 아니면 정말로 무언가를 겪은 것인지 알 수 없는 휘틀리는 마침내 정신과 의사를 찾아 최면 치료를 받기로 한다. 봉인된 기억의 문이 열리는 순간, 그는 그날 밤 자신에게 일어난 일과 마주하게 되는데... 그를 찾아온 '방문자'들은 과연 누구이며, 무엇을 원하는 것일까?

Communion is a 1989 American science fiction film directed by Philippe Mora and adapted by Whitley Strieber from his 1987 book.

Production

Communion was written by Whitley Strieber adapting his book of the same name, itself chronicling Strieber's alleged encounters with extraterrestrials. Strieber opted to work with director and friend Philippe Mora on adapting the story to film with the understanding Strieber would handle the writing without interference while Mora would handle direction without interference.

Some people who work on movies are nice people; some people who work on movies are jerks. We had the usual mix on this crew.

The filmmakers later arranged special screenings of the film in several cities, including New York, San Diego, San Antonio and St. Louis, for alleged abductees.
