Production

After the commercial and critical success of Drishyam, director P. Vasu decided to remake the film in either Tamil or Telugu, when he received an offer from the Kannada film production company E4 Entertainment. His name was referred to the producers by actor Ravichandran. It was revealed in February 2014 that the latter would portray Mohanlal's character from the original film.

Filming began on 11 March 2014, in the Kodagu district in Karnataka, a major part of which was shot in Madikeri. Small parts of the film were then shot in Bangalore and Nanjangud.
