이 영화는 자식을 극한까지 몰아가는 아버지와 아들의 야구 이야기다. 좁게 보면 트로피 키즈에 목말라하는 부모와 자식의 이야기를 그리고 있다. 메이저리그의 주목받던 투수 루키인 호퍼 깁슨이 스트라이크를 던지지 못하게 되어 팀에서는 그를 정신과 전문의 모블리 박사(폴 지아마티)에게 보낸다. 모블리 박사와 호퍼 깁슨은 심리 치료를 하면서 호퍼의 마음속 깊숙하게 자리잡고 있던 아버지 호퍼 시니어(에단 호크)를 끄집어 내게된다.

Production

The Phenom was shot primarily in Atlanta, Georgia. Principal photography wrapped on December 20, 2014. Hawke had previously considered taking a part in Buschel's second film, 2007's Neal Cassady, and the two became friendly after that.
