Schramm

Schramm (1993)

Lothar Schramm is a simple man with complex problems, yet he seems like such a nice guy. He works as a taxi driver and lives by himself where he is happy to answer his door to strangers and kill them outright. As with many shy loner types he has a problem dealing with women so he drugs them and photographs their nude bodies for sexual stimulation. He then murders his helpless victims and so goes the life of a deranged serial killer.

Curiosidades

Schramm is a 1993 German horror film directed by Jörg Buttgereit and written by Buttgereit and Franz Rodenkirchen. The film depicts the fragmented memories and hallucinations of Lothar Schramm, a taxi driver and serial killer known as the "Lipstick Killer", as he lies dying in his apartment.

Production

Schramm was produced by Buttgereit and Manfred O. Jelinski through Jörg Buttgereit/Manfred O. Jelinski Filmproduktion in Berlin. Jelinski served as director of photography, with additional camera work by Buttgereit, Marcus Stein and Herr Laskowski. Buttgereit, Jelinski and Rodenkirchen edited the film.

The film was shot on 16 mm film and blown up to 35 mm for theatrical exhibition. Some sequences were shot on Super 8.

The music was composed by Max Müller and Gundula Schmitz. Müller was a bandmate of lead actor Florian Koerner von Gustorf in the Berlin rock band Mutter.

The film opens with a quotation attributed to American serial killer Carl Panzram. Reviewing a later collection of Buttgereit's films, Micah Gallo of DVD Talk wrote that Buttgereit and Rodenkirchen used a book about Panzram as a starting point from which they developed their own ideas for Schramm.
