باشو غریبهٔ کوچک (1989)

During the Iran-Iraq War, young Bashu loses his home and family. Orphaned, he sneaks into a truck leaving the area, and gets off in the Northern country, where everything from landscape to language is different. He meets Naii, trying to raise her two young children on a farm while her husband is away. Despite cultural differences and a language barrier, Bashu and Naii slowly form a strong bond.

Bashu, the Little Stranger, is a 1986 Iranian drama film directed by Bahram Beizai. The film was produced in 1986, and was released in 1989. This multi-ethnic film was the first Iranian film to make use of Gilaki, a northern language of Iran, in a serious context rather than comic relief. Susan Taslimi playing the main character, Naii, is a Gilak herself. The cast included Farrokhlagha Houshmand.
