怪談雪女郎

조각가 장인과 그의 제자는 사찰에 봉헌할 불상을 깎기 위해 특별한 나무를 찾아 나섰다가, 거센 눈보라에 갇히고 만다. 두 사람은 가까스로 버려진 오두막을 찾아 몸을 피하고, 나무를 발견한 행운을 축하하며 잠시 안도한다. 그러나 곧 그들 앞에 ‘설녀(雪女)’가 나타난다. 그녀는 장인을 얼려 죽이고, 제자에게는 연민을 느껴 목숨을 살려준다. 단, 그 대가로 그는 절대 이 일을 누구에게도 말하지 않겠다고 약속해야만 했다.

The Snow Woman is a 1968 Japanese fantasy horror film directed by Tokuzō Tanaka and produced by Daiei Film. The film is an expanded adaptation of the Yuki-onna short story as it appeared in the 1904 collection Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things by Lafcadio Hearn.

Production

The snowy exterior scenes were all shot on a studio sound stage at Daiei-Tokyo Studios as opposed to on location. This was done to provide an eery, unnatural feel.
