캐리 로우스타인과 한나 로젠은 둘도 없는 친구이다. 둘은 히브리 학교 친구인 사만다 골드스타인의 자살 소식을 듣고 장례식에 참석하고 신앙을 통한 애도의 기회로 마련된 '십대 토크' 세션에 참여한다. 그러나 무심코 한 키스로 캐리의 세계는 완전히 뒤바뀌며 절친이던 십대들은 욕망, 사회적 지위, 흔들리는 믿음 사이에서 혼돈의 소용돌이에 휩싸인다.
