Production

The script was originally submitted as My Wife and I Bought a Ranch to Reddit on the horror themed subreddit r/nosleep on February 18, 2020, and later published as Old Country in 2022. After initially going viral, a bidding war ensured for film rights, with Netflix emerging as the winner. The film went into turnaround and was then acquired by Amazon MGM Studios in 2024 with Drew Hancock set to write and direct.

Principal photography began on August 31, 2026, in Ireland.
