Giappone, 250 anni fa. Soetsu è un usuraio che viene ucciso dal crudele samurai Shinzaemon. Il suo corpo viene gettato nel fiume Kasenega-Fuchi. Secondo la leggenda, tutti coloro che annegano nel fiume non riemergeranno mai più. 20 Anni dopo, Shinkichi, il bel figlio di Shinzaemon, incontra per caso Toyoshiga, la figlia di Soetsu. I due si innamorano. È un amore condannato, perché lo spirito di Soetsu è tutt'altro che morto.

Kaidan is a 2007 Japanese horror film directed by Hideo Nakata. It centers on two young lovers who are haunted by the ghost of a murdered moneylender who seeks revenge, which leaves a lasting effect on the couple.

Production

The title means "ghost story". The screenplay for the film was written by Satoko Okudera, based on the ghost story "Shinkei Kasanegafuchi" by Enchou Sanyutei.

The theme song of the film, titled "Fated", was sung by Ayumi Hamasaki.
