앤지는 어린 시절에 아름다웠던 엄마와의 추억만을 먹고 사는 강인하고도 슬픈 여자이다. 집에서는 아빠와 새엄마가 밖에서는 남자 친구인 바니에 늘 만족하지 못하고 산다. 그런 어느날 앤지는 비니의 아이를 갖게 되고, 결혼 준비를 서둘게 되나 왠지 마음을 잡지 못한다. 화랑에서 보고 싶어하던 드가의 그림을 보던 앤지는 노엘이란 국제변호사를 만나 임신한 몸으로 사랑에 빠지게 된다. 비니와 결별한 앤지는 노엘과 더 가까워지고, 그런 앤지를 새엄마와 친구 티나는 못마땅해 한다. 그러던 어느날 앤지는 출산을 하게 되나, 아이는 요골 결핍증에 걸린 비정상 아이다. 노엘에게 버림받고 아이에게 정을 못 붙이던 앤지는 엄마를 찾아 텍사스로 향한다. 그러나 꿈에 그리던 엄마는 정신분열증 환자이고, 이를 알게 된 앤지는 아빠와 아이에 대한 자신의 사랑을 확인하게 된다. 그러나 아이는 합병증인 폐렴으로 위독하고, 앤지는 아이를 살리기 위한 사투를 벌이는데.

Angie is a 1994 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Martha Coolidge, written by Todd Graff, and starring Geena Davis as the title character. It was produced by Hollywood Pictures and Caravan Pictures and released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution on March 4, 1994. It is based on the 1991 novel Angie, I Says by Avra Wing, which was a New York Times Notable Book of 1991. The film received mixed reviews and was a box-office bomb, grossing only $9.4 million against its $26 million budget.

Production

20th Century Fox films head Joe Roth, production president Roger Birnbaum and producer Larry Brezner had Angie, I Says under development. Todd Graff had written the screenplay for Madonna. The adaptation was placed into turnaround. Roth and Birnbaum had left for an independent label at Disney, Caravan Pictures, and were able to get the adaptation moved there from Fox.
