வெப்பம் (2011)

In the slums of Chennai, Karthik, a young engineering student, falls in love with Revathy, his childhood friend. However, their lives are entangled with the dark underbelly of the city, where Karthik's father, Jyothi, a drunkard and drug peddler, has abandoned them. Karthik's friend Vishnu, who owns a mechanic shop, gets embroiled in Jyothi's illegal dealings, leading to a chain of events that puts their lives in danger. As Karthik and Revathy navigate their love amidst the chaos, they must confront the harsh realities of their world, including crime, betrayal, and loss. Ultimately, Karthik must make a choice between his love for Revathy and his need for revenge against his father, who is responsible for the death of his friend Vishnu.

Veppam (transl. Heat) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language crime action film written and directed by Anjana in her directoral debut. The film stars Nani, Nithya Menen, Karthik Kumar and Bindu Madhavi, with Jennifer, Sheimour Roosevelt and Muthukumar in supporting roles. It marks Nani and Madhavi's Tamil debut. The story narrates events from the slum areas of Chennai, showcasing characters and their struggles. The film, jointly produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon's Photon Kathaas and RS Infotainment, began production in 2010 and was released on 29 July 2011.

Production

Veppam is the directorial debut of Anjana Ali Khan. She had initially signed up with another producer, but since the project failed to take off, Gautham Vasudev Menon, under whom she had worked as an assistant director, stepped in and took over the production. Bindu Madhavi was cast after Anjana noticed her modelling assignments, making her Tamil debut.
