Intent to Kill

Juan Menda, dittatore di imprecisato paese sudamericano, si reca in incognito a Montreal per essere sottoposto a un delicato intervento chirurgico. I suoi avversari politici intendono approfittare della circostanza per sopprimerlo, contando sull'appoggio dell'ambasciatore in Canada. Un sicario si introduce furtivamente nella clinica che ospita Menda, raggiunge la sua camera e pratica un'iniezione mortale all'uomo che giace addormentato a causa dell'effetto dell'anestesia. Ma l'assassino ignora che il dittatore era stato trasferito pochi attimi prima in un'altra stanza.

Intent to Kill is a 1958 British film noir thriller directed by Jack Cardiff and starring Richard Todd, Betsy Drake and Herbert Lom. The film was based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Brian Moore. It was shot on location in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with an international cast of European and North American actors.

Production

Richard Todd claims he was forced to make the film under his contract with Fox. He called it "a stinker. It was a melodramatic, unbelievable thriller" which "had all the merits of a run-of-the-mill TV drama." He says it was shot over eight weeks at Elstree, saying it was "a totally forgettable picture, and I don't think I ever saw the finished product. I can't even recall the story."
