イギリスの映画監督、脚本家、映画プロデューサー。大学で英文学と演劇を学び、1986年に『Made in Bangkok』でロンドン・シアター・サークルの最優秀戯曲賞を受賞。91年に脚本・監督を務めた『愛しい人が眠るまで』で映画デビュー。『イングリッシュ・ペイシェント』(96年)でアカデミー賞監督・作品賞など9部門を制した。
